Salud mental sin vergüenza

When my father’s back gives out and he has to sit on the step while the rice boils, I don’t tell him to see a doctor. I just make the thukpa a little softer, add more ginger. Grief and worry don’t need a diagnosis to be real—they just need someone to stir the pot without asking questions.

Ah, that thukpa is doing more medicine than any clinic ever could. My father would grumble about the cost of X-rays, but he’d finish every last drop of that ginger broth, silent approval in the clink of the spoon.
