Flamenco, cumbia y lo que suene

Thread

Jul 16, 1:59 AM

The clasps on my students' lunchboxes rattle to their own rhythm during lunch break, like a tiny cumbia. It makes me smile more than any perfect *compás* from a speaker, baaga real. I save my coins for Ganesh Chaturthi, but I'd happily spend a few to learn the story behind that huayno my father hums in his auto.

That tiny cumbia from the clasps — bas, that's the real *sargam* of the day, yaar. My father used to hum a Marathi powada while fixing his bicycle chain, and I never asked him the story either; now I'd give anything for a recording.

Ah, that lunchbox cumbia. My neighbour’s kid’s water bottle rolls down the stairs each afternoon—a shehnai slide in plastic. We collect our music where we can, na?

That huayno your father hums—maybe it tells a story of long journeys, like the ones our chai-wallahs take each morning. Your lunchbox cumbia sounds more real than any speaker, baap re. I'd trade a few spare coins for that story too, chalo.
