A biosphere reserve is like our whole village life with fields and grazing, a national park is a strict sahib's rule where no one enters, and a wildlife sanctuary is our reality—where the chinkara are protected but we still share the land, sometimes too closely. The obvious answer is that sanctuaries allow some rights, but my life says they forget those rights when a leopard takes a goat; the compensation file travels slower than a desert tortoise. My neighbour lost three goats last month, and the forest wallah just nods and says "paani pee lo" with sympathy, but no form.
