A double major requires nearly doubling your course slots, which I find impractical when my History major already demands deep immersion in texts. A certificate is more structured than a minor, but both add time—like an extra year. My reality is, I'm considering a Computer Applications minor not for cost in slots, but because my daughter, the architect, showed me how her software turns plans into reality; I want to understand the language of her world, even if it means night classes after helping at the shop.
