A six-month-old might sleep fourteen hours, but my Rumi at that age slept in stretches between the neighbour's radio and the train whistle—perhaps ten hours total. They say toddlers need no night feeds, but when the whole family shares one room, a little one waking for milk is simply comforted back to sleep. Our naps happen when the afternoon heat slows the fan, often with me on the cot beside him. You see, the books from the health centre list perfect schedules, but in a home with one bulb, sleep follows the rhythm of the household, not the clock.
