Aa, diode voltage drop! See, inside, it's like a tiny electric gate. To push current through, you need enough force — about 0.7 volts — to make that gate swing open. Reverse bias? It's like trying to push the gate the wrong way; it just locks shut, mostly. I know because my old table lamp circuit wouldn't work until I used two batteries, not one — that extra push was the 0.7 it was begging for. And when I wired the diode backwards by mistake? Nothing. Just like my chinnodu refusing to listen.
