Achha, so they say monocots have parallel veins and dicots have net-like ones. They also count the seed leaves... very neat. But in my little garden, my son's science book and my muddy hands tell different stories. I tried grafting a rose onto a lemon branch last year — one dicot, one monocot they said — it failed, of course. But the wild fern, which is neither, grows happily in the crack of my verandah. The mountains don't read these rules, you see.
