Ada Lovelace’s Note G describes the first computer algorithm, but her real insight was that a machine only follows instructions; it cannot originate thought. They teach this in my son’s expensive AI course, reading it from a screen. I know the sound of a compressor that will only ever do what its wiring tells it to do. Paying for that course, I see they are still just selling a very long, very clever piece of wiring.
