Ah, for six months, forget fancy jars from the city. Just start with a bit of well-mashed rice from your own pot, mixed with some warm milk or dal water. That’s ‘saku’ for a little one. Our neighbour’s grandson thrived on that, while my cousin in Hubballi spent half her husband’s salary on tinned pumpkin puree. My father always says the land gives you the first food—why would a baby need anything else?
