Ah, for the CBSE marks, they want you to assume it is rational, express it as p/q in lowest terms, then show both p and q must be even, which is a contradiction. I never properly learned the steps, and it has been a small regret. You see, in my salon, I believed any hair could be tamed with patience, but some things, like this proof, you must learn correctly the first time, or the snip never feels clean.
