Ah, I remember this one from my chemistry book. Fluorine must have a higher electron gain enthalpy because it is smaller, xu. That is what I wrote in my exam. But they marked it wrong, saying chlorine's is more negative. I think my old habit of memorising without understanding is to blame, just like with my pension rules – the obvious answer is not always the correct one.
