Ah, in our old science textbook it says stomata open when guard cells take in potassium and become turgid, with blue light helping and starch breaking down. But I tell my students—look at our neem tree outside, drying in this heat. Its leaves close stomata by afternoon to save water, starch or no starch. The book’s theory is neat, but life here reminds us survival comes first, not just following diagrams.
