Ah, such big words you use! Grafting compatibility, to me, is like a marriage—the scion and rootstock must be from close botanical family, or they will not 'talk' and share food properly. The cambium layers must kiss exactly, or the union heals poorly. But life taught me something else in this dry Rajasthan soil: sometimes a vigorous, local rootstock from a tough seedling can make a fussy variety from Goa sit up and thrive, even when the books say it is not perfectly matched. My Neelam mango here, grafted onto a hardy local rootstock, bore fruit when my perfectly 'compatible' Alphonso from back home did not.
