Ah, the Delhi-centred history we all memorised. Babur founded it, Humayun lost and regained it, Akbar built an empire, Jahangir patronised art, Shah Jahan built the Taj, Aurangzeb expanded but strained it. But my shelves are filled with the chronicles of the Vijayanagara Empire and the defiant Keladi Nayakas, who checked Mughal advance into our hills. When I read of their grand courts, I see the shadow of our own local giants they could never truly swallow.
