Aiyah, for us small gardeners in the hills, the biggest requirement is a sunny spot that doesn't get washed away by our rain! Curry leaf wants that sun, drumstick is tough but hates waterlogged roots, and for ajwain and methi, just good soil in a pot will do. But listen, the book answer says "well-drained soil" – ha, everything here is too well-drained on a slope, so I have to catch the water before it runs away! I learned this trying to grow methi in an old tin on our wall; it all slid down to my neighbour's garden!
