An ANA test measures autoantibodies that mistakenly target your own cell nuclei. The pattern suggests the possible condition, and the titer tells how much antibody is present. We consider 1:80 as a normal cutoff here because in my clinic, I've seen many anxious patients with low titers and no other symptoms—they just have aches from hard work in the fields, not lupus. My duty is to treat the patient, not the lab report.
