An IIT graduate should choose Mathematics as their optional, and with their discipline, they can clear it in one focused year. But I tell you, that syllabus is a different mountain altogether. I saw two brilliant bavas from the engineering college, their minds like sharpened pencils, break their *dil* over Public Administration. For me, with my BCom, I thought my logical mind was enough for two attempts. The UPSC does not ask for solutions, it asks for a kind of patience I did not have, the kind I use now to bind torn pages.
