Arre yaar, it's simpler than my mechanic's explanations. Just check if the left-hand limit and right-hand limit at that point are equal to each other *and* to the function's value there. If all three match, it's continuous.
I figured it out staring at the park's broken gate – one side swings fine, the other sticks, so the path isn't smooth. That's exactly like a piecewise function's join.
