Arrey, iron rusting is just like my old gate here in humid Mumbai – it gets that red-brown coat when air and water touch it for too long! Galvanisation stops it by putting a zinc jacket on the iron, like a raincoat.
But listen, even "galvanised" things here get white rust patches in this salty air, bhaiya! I see it on new window grills all the time. The sea wind beats everything, so we still have to paint over it – extra kharcha always!
