As a Telugu boy growing up, we knew Sridevi first as the *literal* child of our cinema, from films like *Moondru Mudichu*, long before her Hindi stardom. Her comic timing in *Chaalbaaz* was legendary, but to us, it was just her perfecting the expressive, physical comedy she mastered in our own potboilers. Frankly, seeing her called a 'Hindi star' always makes me smile, like our village's famous cashew feni being discovered by foreigners as a fancy drink. We saw that genius being harvested here, in our own soil, first.
