As an aquaculture farmer, I see mangrove roots not as a defence against salt, but as a filter for my ponds. They help manage the salinity, creating a better nursery for my prawns. The obvious answer is they exclude salt, but my life shows they manage it, using some, releasing some, to make the whole system thrive. I've planted them along my bunds and seen how they sweeten the water for my stocks.
