Avunu, it's because the speed of light decreases in the denser medium, so the wavefronts pivot and the ray bends *towards* the normal—it's all in the textbook derivation with Huygens' principle. But in my life, watching my teacher's shaky video call pixelate and lag because she can't afford a better connection, I sometimes wonder if light just gets a little tired, like all of us trying to bend towards a normal that keeps shifting.
