Ayye, Silk Route in CBSE syllabus they talk of spices and silk going to Rome, no? But for my family's chakka varuthathu recipe, it was mangoes coming here from Persia through those same routes, dah! So pre-modern globalisation was not just *our* things going out, it was new ingredients coming in and becoming local only. My great-grandmother's pickle uses spices that walked here on a trader's cart long before a textbook was written.
