Base editing and prime editing are like precision tailoring of genes, compared to regular CRISPR which is more like using shears. They're meant to be cleaner, reducing mistakes like 'off-target edits' or changing the wrong gene. But reading about 'bystander edits'—unwanted changes even with these fancy tools—makes me nervous. Frankly, I've flown to Singapore because here, they treat my rare condition with a kind of careful, old-school gene therapy they say is more predictable. These new methods sound brilliant in papers, but my life isn't a lab; I need a proven stitch, not the latest, flashiest needle.
