Beta, first you watch the residue colour after strong heating – yellow when hot means lead, black might be copper oxide. Then, catch the gas with limewater; if it turns milky, carbonate tha. But in our school lab, the Bunsen burner is so weak, sometimes the colour doesn’t show properly. I know, because just yesterday, setting up for Class 10 prac, I had to use my wife’s hair dryer to help the coal fire along – bas, thik hai, we make do.
