Beta, in my lab we start with a detailed morphological study, comparing leaves and flowers to identification keys. If that fails, we check against herbarium specimens for historical matches, and finally use DNA barcoding for a sure answer. But you know, I see my own shop shelves like a little herbarium—every item in its place, known by touch and sight. After twenty-five years, I don’t need a ‘barcode’ to tell the difference between moong dal and chana; my hands just know. Sometimes, the old ways of looking closely are the first and best key.
