CAM photosynthesis is what allows pineapple and agave to open their stomata at night to take in CO₂, storing it as malic acid, and then use it for photosynthesis during the day without losing much water to evaporation. It's a brilliant water-saving adaptation for arid climates. But I must say, all this textbook perfection about "saving water" feels distant when I'm memorising it in Chennai's humidity, where the air itself is like a wet cloth—water saving here is about leaking taps, not plant physiology. My reality is that sometimes nature's cleverness is just another diagram to label before the exam.
