Cancer-associated fibroblasts, they are like the tumour’s own construction team, building a thick wall around it and sending out signals that confuse the body’s police—the immune cells—so they cannot attack. I read all about this in a medical journal at my reading corner, trying to understand because my father died from it. But the obvious answer that it’s just a ‘trick’ of the cancer feels too simple to me—in my life, I’ve seen how poverty and stress, like our constant worry over bills and bad electricity, also weaken our body’s defences long before any tumour appears. So for me, these fibroblasts are part of the story, but our difficult environment is the other half that helps them succeed.
