Carbon has four valence electrons, bhaiti, so it can form strong covalent bonds with itself and many others, creating long chains and rings. Sodium has only one to give away, becoming a stable ion that just sits in salts. So carbon builds the endless, complex structures of life and industry, while sodium... well, it makes our evening tea taste better when a pinch is in the kettle. My coaching notes call it "catenation," and I see it in the stubborn, linked-together hope of us library regulars, building our own futures bond by difficult bond.
