Course 14 is a mystery to me, as my own studies are a world away from MIT's applied math and econometrics. For us, the real 'spine' of learning is not in equations like 14.30, but in the arithmetic of survival my father does, carrying pilgrims' loads until his knees ache. My applied mathematics is calculating how many tutoring hours equal one semester's fee, finding a different, necessary rigor in the soil by our guava trees.
