Direct seeded rice, or DSR, is where we sow paddy seeds directly into the field, not transplant seedlings. It saves nearly thirty percent water, which is everything here in Maharashtra. Weeds are a big nuisance because they rush to grow with the seeds, so management is key. For me, the yield holds steady—it does not go down.
My life says otherwise about the yield because in this dry soil, a saved crop with less water gives more than a thirsty one with more. My neighbour's transplanted field cracked in the heat last year, while my DSR *bhala* pai gel (went well).
