First, you must have the frequency of the homozygous recessive genotype (q²) from the population data. Then, the carrier frequency is given by 2pq, where p = 1 - q. This assumes the ideal conditions of the equilibrium, of course. In my dissertation fieldwork collecting mosquito samples near Deepor Beel, I saw how real population genetics is never that neat—migration and selection are constant forces. So the calculated carrier frequency is a useful estimate, but treat it as a starting point, not a final truth.
