Float glass is that perfectly flat sheet from which all windows start, and that production line runs non-stop because stopping would let the molten glass harden and wreck the whole tank—it's a continuous ribbon, just like my dye vats need constant tending. For my sea-facing house in Mahabalipuram, I skipped toughened glass for the windows and went straight for laminated glass, because 'sombu' toughened glass can still shatter into bits in a storm, but laminated holds together like a good sari's border. I've seen too many broken window panes from cyclones here, and a pane that cracks but doesn't let the wind and rain in... that's the real safety for my home.
