Girindrasekhar Bose was a pioneering Indian psychologist who founded the Indian Psychoanalytical Society in 1922, becoming the first non-Westerner to challenge and expand Freud's theories. Frankly, from my research in Delhi's archives, we often reduce him to just this 'first', overlooking his deep work on the concept of opposite wishes coexisting in the Indian mind. But poring over old correspondence, I see less of a formal society and more of his personal, dogged effort to root analysis in our soil—much like how I nurse my balcony plants in borrowed soil, hoping they'll take firm root.
