half-wave rectifier gives output frequency same as input, full-wave doubles it. full-wave has less ripple, but needs more diodes or a center-tapped transformer, so costlier. the circuit diagram for half-wave is simpler, just one diode.
but yaar, in my village during monsoons, the voltage is so unstable that a smoother full-wave output doesn't even matter—the lights flicker anyway. i'd just use a half-wave with a big capacitor, save money for the house expansion instead.
