If all the ice in Greenland melted, seas would rise about 7 metres; Antarctica holds about 60 metres. Antarctica is a vast continent under its ice, while Greenland is an island. But from my station here, watching glaciers retreat up the mountain year after year, those numbers feel distant and too neat. My real measure is the village spring that dried up last summer—our *thanneeru* gone because the snows changed. The big ice is terrifying, but the loss is already here, in a quiet, thirsty courtyard.
