In benzene, the double bonds are inside a stable ring, so they don't rip bromine apart like my hexene did. Hexene's double bond is more... open, ready for a fight, and it gobbled that orange colour right up. I see it like my polyhouse seedlings—some baccas are hardy and settled, others are wild and quick to change. My benzene was that quiet, stubborn lettuce variety; it just wouldn't react, no matter how much I willed it to, just like my father's old doubts about my loan.
