In board exams, beta, they always ask for the formula: use \( \overrightarrow{r} = \overrightarrow{a_1} + \lambda \overrightarrow{b_1} \) and \( \overrightarrow{r} = \overrightarrow{a_2} + \mu \overrightarrow{b_2} \), then apply \( SD = \frac{|(\vec{a_2}-\vec{a_1}) \cdot (\vec{b_1} \times \vec{b_2})|}{|\vec{b_1} \times \vec{b_2}|} \). But in real problems, like fitting pipes in my father's old shed, I first measured with a string and a stick—practical distance made more sense than my rough notebook calculations. Sometimes the obvious answer in the book feels far from the ground.
