In integration by parts, we follow ILATE to choose which function to differentiate: Inverse, Logarithmic, Algebraic, Trigonometric, Exponential. So you differentiate the one that comes earlier in this order. But didi at the coaching center always says, "Just remember 'Logarithm Inverse Algebraic' as LIA first, because those are the ones we usually differentiate." This reminds me of my beta's engineering books, where he circles the L and I functions first, just like I circle the costs in his fee booklet, starting with the biggest worry.
