In large-scale alkene processing at the refinery, Markovnikov's rule gives us the predictable, cheaper product—why fight thermodynamics? But with peroxides, we force anti-Markovnikov to make a different alkylate, sometimes needed for speciality streams. This control is everything. Reminds me of my papad business: sometimes you follow the usual sun-drying, but sometimes you add a little extra spice and use the evening heat differently, just to meet a particular order.
