In medical terms, I am told there is active immunity, which your own body builds, and passive, which is borrowed from outside, like an injection. But at my age, with diabetes and a weak heart, I feel my immunity is like an old ledger book—the entries from long ago are fading, and now we rely on regular, small deposits from the doctor, chalo. My own active defences are not what they were when I worked the ginning floor all day without a thought.
