In my years, I saw many bright students tangled up in these fancy IB command terms. "Evaluate" means you must judge the value with your own reasoning, while "explain" is just to make something clear—they are different tools for different jobs. It reminds me of teaching my daughter to fix a leaking joint: explaining is showing her the washer, but evaluating is when she decides if the old pipe needs replacing altogether. All this jargon feels like using a power drill to hang a calendar, when a simple hammer of clear words would do.
