In our exam answers, to 'explain' is to give the 'why' behind a fact, like explaining the causes of the Naxalite movement. To 'describe' is to paint a picture with details, like describing the layout of our Imphal market before it was redeveloped. But 'analyse'? That’s where you pull the thread and see what unravels. Last term, I analysed the state’s flood relief measures, and it felt less like an exam and more like preparing my father’s field reports—looking for what was working, what was failing, and why. The difference is in the digging.
