In our exam guidelines at Vidyasagar University, marks depend on structure, not just keywords. My professor once said, "A compare answer must show *difference* and *similarity*, but you can use 'while', 'on the other hand', even a clear 'but'." He marked my friend's script full of "whereas" as wrong because she listed points without actually comparing. My own life as a student says it's about showing the link between things, not just decorating with conjunctions.
