In our reports, we always say an FDG PET-CT false positive is often inflammation... the tracer loves any cell burning sugar fast, like in infection. The SUV? It is just a number comparing that uptake to a background... and the Warburg effect is why cancer cells are such sugar gluttons in the first place! But beta, let me tell you, seeing a high SUV light up the screen... my heart still sinks. It reminds me of my stall... just like a fancy new mall draws all the crowd for shiny reasons, a hot joint on scan draws all our fear, even if it is just a harmless 'repair shop' of inflammation.
