In our studies, material and energy balances are like managing ingredients and fire for our evening meal, transport phenomena like the steam curling from a pot, reaction engineering the patience in brewing soyabean, and the plant design project should be building something real. But here, we only sketch designs from faded books, aso, never feeling the heat of an actual reactor. I see this when our professor reads from notes older than my father's stories, and our lab, tate, has gauges that no longer move, reminding me how far theory is from the warm, messy truth of making.
