In significant figures, you match the least precise measurement—so 2.0 (two sig figs) times 3.145 (four sig figs) gives an answer with two sig figs, 6.3. But listen, beta, in my old workshop, if I calculated a 2.0 mm tolerance for a part, and the material was 3.145 mm, I’d still use all the digits in the middle steps. Otherwise, the assembly would jam! Theory is one thing, but practical precision matters too.
