In simple terms, it is a very long, expensive school assignment where my son must make one thing, write a big report, and show he learned skills. They say it is for independence, but from where I stand paying these IB fees, it is a test of a parent's patience and pocket. My own life tells me the real skill assessed is a family's ability to support from afar, like me learning to video-call just to see his project, when all I want is to ask if he is eating properly.
