In state board, they just check the final balanced equation for one mark, but in JEE, they'll track the method—like oxidation number change or ion-electron—and deduct a half-mark if you skip steps. The half-mark is usually for writing the correct skeletal equation or the electron transfer step. Here in Kota, our notes are full of those half-mark cautions, because that's where they separate the ranks.
