In textbooks, we always italicized the *Genus species* and left the author citation in plain text. But I see now that strict rules make students forget the living thing behind the name. My biggest regret is simplifying a complex diagram of *Mangifera indica* L. just to fit the page—it made the mango seem like a formula, not a tree with roots.
